Dating Service Finds College Singles Pessimistic

Most College Students Pessimistic About The Economy Recovering Any Time Soon Yet Remain Upbeat About Chances For Finding a Job After Graduation A New Survey Has Found

In a poll conducted by CollegeLuv.com, a new online dating site for college students, 45 percent believe it will take a few years for the economy to fully recover. Another 16 percent don’t believe a recovery will start for at least a year, while 18 percent see the economy picking up steam by the end of the year.

“Turnover rates are highest at entry-level positions, so there are jobs out there. Being proactive in your job search is key,” stated Gail Laguna, spokesperson for CollegeLuv.

The poll of over 800 college students found 28 percent already have a job waiting them after graduation; 37 percent were optimistic they would find something soon; 22 percent were worried about a tough job market. Only 8 percent felt there was no point in even looking for a job at this time.

“Many of our members use CollegeLuv.com not only for dating but for networking, connecting with other students and expanding their social circle. This interaction could give them a needed edge when looking for a job after graduation,” continued Laguna.

For soon-to-be-graduating college students, the job market isn't very welcoming right now. In a survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, companies expect to hire 3.6 percent fewer graduates than they did a year earlier.

An estimated 1.3 million college graduates are due to hit the pavement this spring in an attempt to join a U.S. workforce that numbers about 135 million. A separate poll of over 1600 college students conducted by CollegeLuv revealed the industries college students would most like to work in: 19 percent chose Healthcare with Education and High Tech both receiving 18 percent of the votes.
